If you’re a history buff, or even if you’re not, you may have wondered how the overhead door was invented ….
C.G. Johnson invented the overhead garage door in 1921 and changed the course of the garage door’s place in history. Johnson, along with his wife, traveled across the United States with a small prototype of the door mounted on the back of his Ford Model T truck, promoting his new innovation at county fairs and in numerous towns. Soon his invention of the “overhead door” gained widespread popularity. In 1926, Johnson invented the first electric door opener.
